Obituary

Albert August Cappucci, beloved husband, father and grandfather died peacefully at home in Ithaca, NY on May 26, 2026. Albert was born on July 26, 1938 in Ithaca NY, to Americo Cappucci and Yolanda Baldini Cappucci.

Al was a graduate of Ithaca High School, Cornell Arts & Sciences (class of 1960) and the Cornell Johnson Business School (class of 1961). After receiving his MBA, he went to work for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC. He then relocated to New York City where he worked on Wall Street and met his wife, Barbara Lamude Cappucci. The couple decided to return to Al’s hometown where they married at St. Catherine of Siena on November 19, 1966. They welcomed their daughter Debora Ann Cappucci on October 28, 1971. In Ithaca, he took joy in living near to his parents and to his brother A. Edward Cappucci, his wife Ann Cappucci and their six kids.

The stock market was Al’s passion, and his career spanned both boutique and well-known brokerage houses. During retirement, he continued to invest for himself, following the stock market on a daily basis and world affairs as an avid reader of the Economist. Al was also generous in sharing his insights and observations about business strategy in a rapidly evolving world.

An argument could be made that Al’s passion for the stock market was surpassed by the pleasure he took from working with his hands - fixing and maintaining his home and yard. He was very particular about home construction, teaching himself the skills and showing the patience to meet his own exacting standards!

Al was blessed to be married to Barbara for 54 years. Together they enjoyed a quiet and bountiful life in Ithaca punctuated by visits and trips to see their four grandchildren: Preston Buljat, Malia Buljat, Declan Burke and Keaton Burke. Al and Barb accompanied their daughter Debora and the grandkids, on many trips and adventures. And the grandkids eagerly anticipated their trip to Ithaca each summer during which Al and Barb shared the beauty and wonder of central NY.

Albert is preceded in death by his parents Americo Cappucci and Yolanda Baldini Cappucci, his wife Barbara Lamude Cappucci and his brother A. Edward Cappucci. It should not be overlooked that Al was a dedicated and selfless caregiver to Barb in her last years as well as to his mother Yolanda. He leaves behind his daughter Debora Cappucci Burke, son-in-law David Burke, grandchildren Preston Buljat, Malia Buljat, Declan Burke and Keaton Burke.

The funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. Sunday, May 31, 2026 at St. Catherine’s of Siena. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 30 from 2-4pm at Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the ALS Foundation.
