It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Andrew “Drew” Black, who passed away on April 10, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by his loving family. Drew’s passing comes after a sudden and unexpected diagnosis of a rare and aggressive cancer. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, especially because of how vibrant, active, and full of life he was.
Drew lived in Spencer, New York, and dedicated his life to caring for others as a podiatrist. He truly loved his patients and built lasting relationships through his compassion, kindness, and genuine interest in people.
He was a devoted husband to Peggy and a loving father to Amanda (Cliff), Andrew (Erin), Ciarra, Parker, Taylor (Steve) and Wyndham (Kelly). He was also a proud and loving grandfather to his grandson, Quinn, who brought him great joy. He is predeceased by his mother, Arona “Ronnie,” his father, Andrew “Andy,” and his sister, Vicki. His family was his greatest treasure, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Drew had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. He loved golfing, gin and tonics, working in the garden and outdoors alongside Peggy, traveling, and spending time in nature. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and was always happiest when surrounded by it. He also had a love for music and could often be found drumming along to a song on any nearby surface, or whistling (endearingly) a bit out of tune. He had a knack for fixing just about anything and took pride in figuring things out. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of just about everything, a deep interest in technology and the new gadgets, and a curiosity that kept him engaged with the world around him. Known for his gift of conversation, Drew could talk to anyone and never met a stranger.
Drew’s legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will live on in all who had the privilege to know him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to come.
