Carl Gehres, 95, of 1092 Snyder Hill Road, Ithaca, passed away Thursday March 26, 2015 at the Beechtree Care Center. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Carl and Pearl Gehres.
Carl entered the United States Army in 1941 and served during WWII and did tours in Iran, Korea and the Canal Zone. He retired in 1964 as a Master Sgt. After his retirement from service he worked for Ithaca College for ten years then moved on to Tompkins County Hospital where he served as Director of Housekeeping. Carl was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his sons, Charles and Carl Gehres Jr. both of Ithaca; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Keith Gehres and his long time friend, Phyllis Barnum and family of Corning, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday March 30, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Jeffrey Tunnicliff officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made the Slaterville Ambulance. Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
