David "Jabber" Norman of Ithaca; NY passed away at his home surrounded by family on May 28, 2015 at the age of 87. Dave was born in Lansing; NY on April 21, 1928, son of the late Michael and Eva (Deeb) Norman; growing up on Portland Point in Lansing. Dave's parents had immigrated to the US from Syria in the early 1900's. As a teenager he joined the United States Army serving in Korea attaining the rank of Drill Sergeant . He later went on to serve as a Police Officer in the City of Ithaca for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He particularly enjoyed the time he spent as a Motorcycle Patrolman and teaching driver & bike safety in area schools where for years after students would still come up to him calling him "Officer Norman." Throughout the years Dave always focused on being a loving and devoted brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather; and, great-grandfather. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Phyllis Root Norman, their two children, Lynda (David) Huckle; Ithaca; NY and David C. Norman; West Hills, CA; his grandchildren, Brett (Erin) Huckle of Wallingford; CT, Ashley (Robert) Case of Lansing, NY; Kyle (Kalie) Huckle; Wallingford, CT; Jamisyn Huckle; Buffalo; NY and David C. Norman Jr.; West Hills; CA; and, his great-grandchildren, Chloe and Connor Case; and Jack and Alexa Huckle, his two brothers Mose (Elizabeth) Norman; Fort Myers; FL and, Samuel (Nancy) Norman; Chandler; AZ and numerous nephews & nieces. Dave was pre-deceased by brothers George & Abraham; and sisters Helen; Mary & Martha. In keeping with Dave's wishes, no calling hours & no funeral services are scheduled. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Dave's memory may be honored with contributions of support to Hospicare; 172 E.
