Edmund Daniel Hare, 83, passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2026.
Born on March 7, 1943, in Ithaca, Ed was a hardworking man, proud veteran of the United States Navy, and avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, boating, bluegrass music, playing guitar, and an ice-cold beer.
After serving more than a decade in the Navy, which took him as far as the South Pole, Ed returned to his hometown of Ithaca and spent most of his career working as a technician for Verizon — a job he loved and one that brought him many lifelong friends.
Last year, after the passing of his wife, Nancy, Ed moved to New Jersey to be closer to his daughter. There, he made new friends and found new adventures. His time there was too short.
He is survived by his children, Maria Manger (Louis), Sarah Crawford (Bernard), Julie Seely (Theresa), Eric Hare, and Sue Albrecht; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; his sister, Cindy Daly; his brother, David Hare; and his beloved dog, Abbie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Hare; his children, Pete Seely (Jessica) and Denise Seely; his parents; and his brother, Bill Hare.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at Bangs Funeral Home on May 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Ed will be laid to rest with military honors at New York State Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes.
Ed’s love for his fellow veterans remained strong throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to organizations serving veterans and military families.
