Rochester

Edward J. Ciaschi, our beloved partner, godfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his partner and loving family members. To know Ed was to know a man who loved deeply, led with humility, and gave generously of his time, wisdom, and heart. His presence filled every room with warmth, encouragement, and a gentle belief that people could become the best versions of themselves.

He was predeceased by his parents, Giulio and Lena Ciaschi (Rocco); his brothers, Joseph R. Ciaschi and Martin L. Ciaschi; his sister, Patricia Reece (Ciaschi); his nephew, Carmen Ciaschi; and his great-nephew Ian Tillack

Edward is survived by his devoted partner of 35 years, David McLane. He is also survived by his nephew Walter Reece; his nieces Linda Himmel (John), Justine Reece, Heather Reece-Tillack, AnnMarie Gray (Bob), Rosemary Cullivan (Kevin), MaryJo Ciaschi (Dave), and Leah De Simone (Rob). His enduring legacy includes 17 great-nieces and nephews, 9 great-great-nieces and nephews, and countless cherished friends and colleagues who benefited from his kindness and mentorship.

Ed’s deepest pride and fulfillment always came from his family. He was the steady foundation of our lives—our encourager, our teacher, our protector, and our most devoted supporter. Whether he was celebrating our accomplishments, offering guidance during difficult moments, or simply sharing conversation, Ed made each of us feel valued, heard, and deeply loved. Ed loved being on the lake, boating, skiing, exercising with his trainer and enjoying his favorite restaurants with good company. He showed up for everything that mattered—family milestones, small everyday joys—and he did so with unwavering dedication and an open heart.

Ed built an extraordinary professional life, he spent more than 50 years shaping and guiding organizations, most notably during his long and celebrated career at Xerox Corporation. His leadership, integrity, and ability to bring people together left a lasting mark on the company and on the many colleagues who admired him. He went on to teach and mentor future leaders as an instructor and program director in higher education, sharing his passion for human resources, leadership, and personal growth. His consulting practice continued that work, allowing him to coach executives and help them navigate their own paths forward.

But Ed’s true vocation—the one that defined him most—was mentoring. For decades, he gave himself fully to helping others discover their strengths, overcome challenges, and reach new heights. He had an extraordinary ability to listen and offer guidance with compassion. Countless people sought out his wisdom, and he generously gave it, whether they were family, students, coworkers, neighbors, or lifelong friends. His impact rippled outward in ways that will continue for generations.

Ed was deeply devoted to his community. He volunteered his time with local organizations, supported young professionals beginning their careers, and embraced opportunities to serve with humility and kindness. He never needed recognition; helping others was simply who he was.

Though his professional achievements were many, Ed’s ultimate legacy will always be the love he poured into his family and the lives he quietly transformed through his kindness and mentorship. His lessons—spoken and unspoken—are now woven into the lives of those he leaves behind.

We will remember Ed for his humor, his steady presence, his generosity of spirit, and the unwavering love he showed every day. His life was a gift to all of us, and his memory will forever remain a source of comfort, pride, and inspiration.
