Lakeland, Florida

Eric Jon Humerez, 68, passed away on December 13, 2025, in Lakeland, Florida. Born on December 12, 1957, in Ithaca, New York, Eric lived a life rich with creativity, curiosity, and compassion.

Eric’s early years were spent in Ithaca, where he attended East Hill and Belle Sherman Elementary Schools before continuing his education at Dewitt Junior High and Ithaca High School. He later pursued studies at Tompkins Cortland Community College. From a young age, Eric displayed a deep love for music—a passion nurtured by listening to records with his beloved “Mumzy.” This early bond over melodies would shape much of his life's journey. Professionally, Eric found his calling in the world of sound. He worked with Calf Audio and later at Cornell University as an IT Specialist. His talents as a sound technician made him a vital part of the local music scene in Tompkins County. Over the years, he lent his expertise to numerous bands including Topaz, Bernie Milton and the Soul Patrol, Radio London, and many others. Whether behind the mixing board or setting up equipment for live shows, Eric brought precision and heart to every performance. Eric spent many years volunteering for TC Friends of the Library Head of CD's, and in Lake Wales volunteering at Bok Tower as their Music Archivist.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Eric was a man of many passions. He had an eye for beauty and detail that came alive through his photography—especially when capturing nature’s quiet moments. A gifted artist as well, he delighted in drawing caricatures of his

granddaughter and nieces and painting small statues with vibrant imagination. His love for words was evident in the crossword puzzles he shared with his Mumzy and the books he devoured as an avid reader. Eric also found joy in life’s simple pleasures: hiking through wooded trails, watching classic films, playing trivia games aboard cruises, or engaging in spirited rounds of Jeopardy with his wife to see who could answer more questions correctly. Some of his most cherished memories were made during playful afternoons spent with his granddaughter.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Cheryl Stevens Humerez; daughter Camellia (Felicia Martin) Stevens; granddaughter Alanna Stevens; parents Ricardo and Alice Humerez; brother James (Barb) Humerez; as well as many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched deeply. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ronald Humerez and Ricky Humerez. Eric will be forever remembered as a kind and gentle soul with a heart of gold—a “can-do” person who never shied away from finding solutions or lending a helping hand. His legacy lives on not only through the music he helped bring to life but also through the laughter he shared, the art he created, and the love he gave so freely.

Hold close the ones you love for tomorrow is not promised.
