Everett Harold Sims, lovingly known as "Skip," passed away on April 15, 2026, in Newfield, New York, at the age of 64. Born on June 6, 1961, in Auburn, New York, Everett was the son of Joyce Spence and the late Ralph Sims. He was also predeceased by his stepfather, Jackie Spence.
Above all else, Everett cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Rita Sims, two daughters, Selina Tillapaugh (Kenneth Tillapaugh ) and Angela Sims (Jared Berry) and two grandsons, Noah Tillapaugh and Hayden Berry. Everett’s mother, Joyce Spence, his brothers, Randy Sims Sr.(Brenda Sims) and Dan Sims Sr. (Patti Schimizzi), Ernie Sims (Mo Sims) and his many nieces and nephews also survive him.
Everett spent his early years in Port Byron before embarking on a life filled with hard work, creativity, and adventure. As a teenager, he began his career at Ithaca College before becoming an entrepreneur and opening East Coast Speed Shop. From there he gave many years to the Newfield Central School District. There he worked as a bus driver and later as part of the maintenance and grounds keeping department where he made a huge impact in so many children’s and co workers lives until his retirement. You could always count on him to brighten your day whether that was with a crazy ghost story, a hug, or just a simple conversation.
Everett retired in 2023 and had been enjoying retirement spending most of his time with his two grandchildren as it was one of his favorite things to do. The love he had for them will never be forgotten. He always loved telling everyone stories about them with a bright smile on his face.
In addition to his hobbies and family Everett was known as the guy who would give you the shirt off his back. One to drop anything he was doing to help somebody without ever asking for anything in return. His legacy will always be remembered with positivity and kindness to all he crossed paths with.
Everett’s celebration of life will be held in June by his family, details will be provided at a later date.
