Florence D. Emery, of Newfield, passed away Sunday, Januayr 14, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Alva and Mildred Beach Dart of Hammondsport, NY and was the widow of Herbert Emery who died in 2009.
Florence grew up on Gibson Hill on Keuka Lake in Hammondsport and liked being referred to as a Gibson Girl. She attended college in Grove City. She made several lifelong friends since moving to Newfield in 1950 and had been the Newfield School Librarian for 40 years. Florence and Herb raised sheep and were members of the Sheep Growers Assoc. She was very involved in the Newfield community including the relocation of the One Room School House and the Newfield Public Library. She had also been active with the preservation of the history of the First Presbyterian Church, Ithaca.
Florence is survived by her sister, Patricia Kelley (Joseph) of Bath, NY; her stepson, David Emery (Barbara) of Newfield; her stepdaughter,
Barbara Lightle (Steven) of Joplin, MO; her step son in law, Ronald Parker of Joplin, MO and step daughter in law, Kimberly Emery of Newfield and many extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her step daughter, Arlene Parker and step sons, Mark Emery and Victor Emery.
