Gwenyth B. (Norton) Warner

Gwenyth B. (Norton) Warner, 87, of Ithaca, NY, died on September 22nd, 2016. She was born to Hubert John and Ina Alison Buckingham on April 21, 1929 in Chilecothe, OH.

She graduated from SUNY Oneonta, where she met and married her first husband, Chauncey Norton, Jr. They moved to the Ithaca area to begin their teaching careers in the early ‘50s. Most of her tenure with the Ithaca CSD was spent at Henry St. John, but she also worked at Central (now BJM) before retiring in 1981. When asked what she taught, she would invariably reply "children." Religion played an important role in Gwenyth's life.

At various times she was an active member of both the St. John's Episcopal and Unitarian Universalist churches. She took full advantage of all that Ithaca offers its seniors, taking many classes at Lifelong, becoming an accomplished and prolific artist, participating in the Lifelong Theatre Troupe and the Ithaca Writers' Association. She sang in the Ithaca Community Chorus and enjoyed playing the piano and writing hymns. She forged many friendships during her years at McGraw House and Longview.

Gwenyth is survived by her husband Sven Warner ; daughters Elizabeth Smith (Ken), Margaret Snyder (Larry), Heather Norton and Catherine Shipos; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on October 1st at 2:00 p.m. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association may be made in lieu of flowers.
