Hazel Kirk Mandeville

Ithaca, NY

Hazel Kirk Mandeville, 96, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 17th, 2016 at her home, which was filled with her family and friends. While she will be greatly missed; she lived a long and happy life, full of love.

Hazel was a caregiver since the age of five; she was the embodiment of generosity and compassion, and made everyone feel like they were at home. Hazel spent countless hours selflessly caring for her family and friends. A sincere and thoughtful listener - never wanting too much attention and shifting the focus to others, to be a part of their world. She was a voracious reader, knitter, pie-lover, and churchgoer, with an open mind and a modest spirit.

Hazel and Chuck had a loving marriage, celebrating 67 years before his passing in 2008. They brought up four wonderful children of their own along with helping to raise many others. Her generous hospitality will continue to live through the many family and friends that were touched by her life.

She was predeceased by her siblings; Donald Kirk, Gladys Mosher, and Catherine Hotaling. She is survived by her children, Helen, Hope, Chick and wife, Vicki, and K.C. and wife, Janet; her nieces and nephews, Carol, Nancy and husband, Paul, Edie and husband, Glenn, Peter, Nelson, and Charlie; her grandchildren, Heather and husband, Gabe, Alison and husband, Pat, Kyle and wife, Carmen, Emeline, Caleb, Garrett, and Max; and great grandchildren, Sam, Matthew, James, and Benjamin. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who have been a part of her devoted family.

Thank you for the additional support from caregivers, Elizabeth, Anita, Dr. Ann, Hospicare, and the many others that contributed to her wellbeing.

Please join us in a small gathering at Six Mile Creek Winery on Tuesday, December 20th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm to celebrate her rich life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Hospicare in her honor. A memorial will be held in the Spring.
