James P. Eisenberg II

April 15, 1937 — October 1, 2025

Newfield

James (Jim) P. Eisenberg II, 88, passed away in the early morning hours of October 1st , 2025 at his home in Newfield, NY. His family was with him.

He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Karin, and sons Osman J (Kim) and Michael P and daughter, Karin P.

His family will, foremost, remember how much he loved them. He was very proud of his children. He loved his dogs; Dooley was his heart dog. The family got Dooley, a big black lab, as a companion dog but he was also a bird dog. Nothing gave Jim more pleasure than to head to King Ferry to hunt pheasants or Cayuga Lake for ducks with Dooley. Jim wore the uniform of the New York State Police with pride. He became a Trooper in 1963 and retired as an Investigator in 1994. He was honored to serve at the 1990 Olympics in Lake Placid, NY and at the 1993 World Games in Buffalo, NY. An avid outdoorsman and lover of wildlife, Jim loved to fish and hunt, to garden, to camp with his family and friends, to be in the woods and to walk the beaches at the ocean. He liked to stop to marvel at the world around him. September was his favorite month; goldenrod, his favorite flower. It was in the great outdoors where Jim saw the Lord. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca, NY. Jim was an active volunteer in the Newfield community. He spent many happy years as a Boy Scout leader. He camped with the Scouts all 4 seasons of the year in the Finger Lakes and he took a group of 10 Scouts to Philmont, the high adventure ranch in New Mexico in 1984. Jim was on the Newfield Public Library Board of Trustees and in the late 1990s, helped to oversee an addition to and renovation of the library. More recently Jim was a member of the town’s Beautification Committee and part of the library’s history discussion group. Jim loved his friends. Thursday mornings he could be found, most recently at Dunkin, having coffee (and donuts) with several of them, sharing hunting and fishing stories. Jim met his death with courage and dignity.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 14th from 4 to 6 pm at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 10:30 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca. A reception in the Parish Hall will follow.
