Solomon, Jane T.Jane T. Solomon passed away, surrounded by her family, on October 31, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born on May 23, 1921 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. Her family later moved to the town of Caroline where she grew up. She married her husband, Joe, on September 5, 1942 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Speedsville, NY. After her children were in school, she worked at The American Agriculturist then for many years in the admissions office at Ithaca College. She retired from Cornell after working as administrative supervisor in the English Department. Her true love was cooking for family gatherings and tending the flowers in her yard. Holidays were always celebrated at her home with many friends and relatives in attendance enjoying laughter, food and friendship. Everyone was a welcome guest at the Solomon house. Of course you cannot leave out the dogs and cats that were fortunate enough to find a home there and in her later years the visits from the granddogs. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Joe; her son David (Pam) Solomon of Ithaca; daughter Lorraine (Dean) Shirley of Pawling, NY; granddaughter Kristin (Jamie) Fish of Youngsville, NC and grandson Brian Solomon of Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 11 am at St. John's Episcopal Church, Speedsville, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospicare of Ithaca or the Tompkins County SPCA. Bangs Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
