John Albert Boslett Jr.

July 10, 1940 — June 14, 2025

Ithaca

John Albert Boslett, Jr., died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, June 14th,

2025, at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of Theresa Boslett; father of Andrew

Boslett (Lindsay Tarnoff) and James Boslett. He is survived by his two sisters, Pamela and

Penelope; his brother, William (Janet); three grandchildren, Alexandra, Natalie, and Micah;

niece Bryn Boslett (David Kurtz); sister-in-law Patricia Rumsey; and his brother-in-law Timothy

(Joanne) Sherwood. John is the son of the late John A. Boslett and Gertrude H. Boslett.

John grew up on Thomas Boulevard in Point Breeze, Pennsylvania. He loved it there, especially

the feeling of being surrounded by a loving family. He attended Edgewood High School before

setting off for Gannon University and, later, Cleveland State University for his PhD in Chemistry.

He published multiple research papers on organic synthesis. He started his own company,

Advanced Technology Instruments, where he consulted with companies to solve problems with

analytical chemistry.

Although he loved his work, it was on the periphery of his life. He most loved being around his

family. He loved riding his bike with his family around Corning, NY, where he raised his kids. He

loved attending his sons’ baseball games; family dinners on Sundays; and talking about history

and science. He loved summers boating on Cayuga and Seneca Lakes. He was generous with

his advice and opinions.

He cherished his trips back to Pittsburgh for family gatherings, and summer visits to the Jersey

Shore and Canada. The latter formed the backbone of his life. He loved nothing more than

fishing for walleyed pike and muskie: with his late grandfather; with his uncle, Bruce Hill, who he

loved as a brother; with Bill, his brother; his sons; and, once, with his granddaughter Alexandra.

While there, he was prone to wonder: sitting on the dock at night with his brother Bill, gazing up

at the Milky Way; observing birds, from osprey to barn swallows; and watching his grandchildren

play in the water or make art in the cottage. He lived a great life.
