NEWFIELD, N.Y.: Navarro, John E., passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the age of 77. Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to call from 4–6 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 West Green Street, Ithaca. A memorial Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025.
John was born on September 14, 1948, in Newfield, N.Y., the son of Margaret Karosy and Enio Navarro. He was a proud 1967 graduate of Newfield High School, where he earned the nickname “Speedy Wonder” as a standout on the Trojans’ football team. His quick feet, big heart, and natural athleticism made him unforgettable on the field.
John carried that same warmth and good-natured spirit into every stage of his life. He was known for his easy smile, his sense of humor, and his ability to make friends everywhere he went. He loved classic oldies—especially the music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s—cars, and the stories that came with them. He was passionate about fishing, sports, and staying active; whether he was running, reminiscing about his days on the football field, or enjoying time outdoors, John lived with a youthful energy that stayed with him throughout his life. Above all, he was a devoted father, a loyal brother, and a deeply proud grandfather. His greatest joy was his family, and he found his happiest moments in the presence of his daughters and grandchildren. Even as he faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s in his later years, his gentle spirit, familiar expressions, and deep love for his family always shone through.
John is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Dan) Enright and Andrea Navarro; his sister, Denise Brown; and his beloved grandchildren, Cohen, Oliver, and Mason Enright. He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret; father, Enio; and brother, Ron.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his storytelling, and his unwavering love for the people around him. John touched the lives of many and leaves behind memories that his family and friends will carry forever.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
May he rest in the eternal peace he so greatly deserves.
