Joseph McEnerney passed away at age 79 on April 10th, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Joe was born and raised in Philadelphia by his father John Ignatius McEnerney and mother Mary Regina
Margaret (Geisz) McEnerney, alongside seven siblings: John, Nancy, Alice, Jim, Dave, Grace, and Mike.
With multiple PhDs and Masters degrees between the two of them, John and Mary cultivated a family of
intellectuals, and Joseph McEnerney was no exception.
After receiving his Masters degree in mathematics at Kansas State University, Joe’s career brought him
to Germany, Japan, and eventually settled him in Ithaca, New York. Here, he met the love of his life,
Denise Reppert. After meeting at work and becoming best friends, Joe and Denise married in the spring
of 1992. Together they raised three children in the countryside with an abundance of bonfires, fishing,
flowers, grapes, and fireflies. He will be remembered by his son (Andrew Noyes) and two daughters
(Laura and Angela), his granddaughter Willa, his 12 nieces and nephews and 13 grand nieces and
nephews, and all who knew him, as a loving father and uncle who inspired their ambition, curiosity,
eccentricity, and humor. Joe filled his life with love, art, and an unending pursuit to understand the
intricacies of the world and its place among the stars. As his sister Grace put it — he is in the cosmos
now, but he will be deeply missed.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine’s of Siena on Saturday, May 23rd, at 11am.
In lieu of flowers donations would appreciated to World Central Kitchens https://wck.org/.
