On Wednesday, October 12, 2016 Judith A. Carrier, passed away at the Cayuga Medical Center at the age of 76, surrounded by her family.
Carrier, a lifetime resident of Ithaca, was born on April 14, 1940 and is survived by her daughter, Kim (Robert) Schramm, son, Scott Feocco, 6 grandchildren (Lynnsey (Ty) Ramsey, Nicole (Dan) Aliberte, Katelyn (Justin Lutes) Schramm, Natasha Feocco, Jacki Feocco, CJ Feocco), and 4 great grandchildren (Skylar, Ty II and Sawyer Ramsey, and Brynnleigh Feocco). She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothy (Pritchard) Wiegand and her brother, William Wiegand.
At her request, no funeral will be held, however, the family will host calling hours at Bangs Funeral Home, Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 11AM to 1PM.
Judy began her career in 1967 at the Tompkins County Trust Company, working in Microfilm, but found her true calling in 1984 when her first grandchild was born.
Judy was always supportive of her grandchildren and their many activities; attending games, concerts, productions and even standing in as a driving instructor when the time came! Her most treasured contribution to the family will forever be the many memories created each summer on the lake. As the long time caretaker of the family cottage seated just outside Aurora, N.Y. on the north end of Cayuga Lake, Judy made sure her children and grandchildren soaked in every sunset, sunrise, starry night, campfire and cricket serenade. She taught them to swim and ski, and the value of being thankful for what you have. She was fearless and soft hearted, sharing simple joys such as bike rides and roasting marshmallows as well as defending her tribe from spiders and water snakes!
Those who knew Judy never went hungry for love. The joy in her smile was enough to carry away any fret or feeling of frustration. New babies entering the world were given hand crocheted blankets and gowns, each special and perfect for the new addition. To meet her in the store, you'd believe her children and grandchildren were stars and heroes - she was known for carrying an entire digital camera around with her just to share photos with anyone willing to thumb through! Her laugh was contagious and if that didn't get you, the sneaky way she tip-toed over to steal a hug would absolutely bring a smile. Judy enjoyed a good Patterson novel and even a game or two of Tetris and Donkey Kong! Elvis and The Beatles were staples - she even named her boat "Hey Jude," of course!
Judy was a quiet soul, and never felt the need to travel far to find happiness and contentment. She was able to receive all the joys in life at home with her family.
Though she may no longer be here beside us, Judy will forever be seated in her favorite lounge chair on the lakeshore, sipping her Diet Pepsi and sharing her Root Beer candies as she winks at us, "Shh!" she would say!!
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the SPCA of Tompkins County or the Disabled American Veterans.
