Kevin L. Cartmill of Ithaca, New York, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2026.

Born on September 26, 1975, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Kevin was the son of Debbie and Lee Cartmill. He grew up in Ithaca and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1993. He went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, where he began his career as an assistant golf professional.

In 2000, Kevin married his high school sweetheart, Kelli Matychak. They returned to Ithaca in 2008, where Kevin built a successful career in banking as a residential loan officer while raising their family.

Kevin was an exceptional athlete whose accomplishments left a lasting mark on the Ithaca community. He was a New York State High School Golf Champion and a standout in basketball as well. As a team leader and integral member of the Ithaca High School boy’s basketball team, he helped lead the program to success and was later inducted into both the Ithaca High School and Section IV Halls of Fame.

Beyond his professional and athletic achievements, Kevin was deeply committed to serving others. He volunteered with Family and Children’s Service and Habitat for Humanity. He was also a passionate member of the Bills Mafia and a fan of Duke basketball and his Georgia Bulldogs.

Above all else, Kevin's greatest joy was his family. He took immense pride in his three children and loved following their athletic journeys from youth sports through high school and college. His unwavering support, encouragement, and presence in their lives will be remembered always.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Kelli; his sons, Nicholas and Zachary; and his daughter, Lilia. He is also survived by his father, Lee; his brother, Christopher (Sarah G.); and his sister, Sarah. Also surviving is his father-in-law, Dan Matychak; his brother-in-law, Danny Matychak (Jill); his nieces and nephew Anna, Gabby, and Nora Matychak and Noah Cartmill. He was predeceased by his mother, Debbie Cartmill and mother-in-law Tina Matychak.

Kevin will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humor, competitive spirit, and dedication to family and friends.

In addition to his family, Kevin leaves behind a large and loving group of lifelong friends who became like family. Their lives were forever enriched by his friendship, and his absence will be deeply felt by the Ithaca community.
