Our precious mother, Lenore Marie Orrange, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 24, 2021 in Ithaca, New York at 93 years of age. She was born June, 3, 1927 in Newark, N.J. to Charles Vincent and Minna (Fientel) Scanlan. Lenore graduated from Newark State Teacher’s College in 1948 and received a M.A. in Education from Cortland State University of New York in 1974.

She married the late Robert James Orrange in 1951, and they lived together in Vestal, N.Y. for over thirty years before relocating to Virgil. Lenore is survived by six children: Jeanne, Steve (Flicia),

Stefanie and Michael, and five great grandchildren. Also a sister, Geraldine, and a host of nieces, nephews, and god children whose birthdays and anniversaries she always remembered. Lenore was predeceased by her loving husband in 2018.

Lenore worked for nine years as a kindergarten teacher at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in Vestal, New York. She received the Teacher of the Year Award for her dedicated service to the students of Broome County’s Catholic schools.

In their retirement Lenore and Bob ran a bed and breakfast at Greek Peak Ski area for over 20 years. She liked to say that Bob made the breakfast while she greeted the guests. They had a cottage on Owasco Lake for 36 years where she delighted in spending time with family and friends during the summer. She enjoyed dancing, downhill skiing, reading and always had a story or funny tale to tell. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma.

She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena parish in Ithaca, N.Y. and an advocate for Social Justice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 13 th , at 11am at the church. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the Mass beginning at 10 am. Covid-19 protocols (masks and social distancing) must be adhered to. The family is especially grateful to the staff at Longview and to Debra Keyser, HHA, for the loving and thoughtful care they provided to Lenore during the final stage of her life.

Lenore (Nore),
You’ll always live on in our hearts through your kindness and love.
