Linda Doig Caliel passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19th, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and love that will endure through all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred, who passed away in 1995, following 31 devoted years of marriage. Their life together was one of deep love, partnership, and shared commitment to family bonds that she carried with her always.

She is survived by her two sons, Scott and his wife Kate, and their children Joey and Molly, of Fairport, New York, and Mark and his wife Kate, and their children Ashley and Alex, of Jacksonville, Florida. Linda was a devoted and loving Tata to her four grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. She found her greatest joy in spending time with them and faithfully supported them in all their athletic and academic activities, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on with pride and love.

Raised in Trumansburg, New York, the beloved daughter of Russell and Frances Doig, and the younger sister of Russell and Herbert Doig. From her earliest years, family shaped her values and her gentle, compassionate nature—qualities that defined her throughout her life. Linda attended Cobleskill College, and in 1964, she married Fred, beginning a life together rooted in Lansing, New York. Together, they raised their two sons and created a home defined by love and encouragement.

Family was at the very center of who she was. Linda deeply cherished her relationships not only with her immediate family, but also with her brothers, sisters-in-law, and her many nieces and nephews on the Caliel and Doig sides of the family. These relationships were profoundly important to her, and she treasured the time spent with each of them, maintaining close bonds through genuine interest, warmth, and love.

She dedicated many years to serving others as a library assistant and teacher’s aide at Lansing Central Schools where her patience, kindness, and steady presence left a quiet but meaningful impact. Linda, lovingly known as “Mrs. C.,” was an ardent supporter of Lansing athletics. She spent years as the Cheerleading Coach for Lansing High School, encouraging teamwork and confidence in its young athletes.

A gentle and kind soul, she found joy in simple pleasures… many years of golfing with family and friends, her deep love of animals, and her cherished beach vacations with her best friend, Marlene. Known for her friendly demeanor and welcoming smile, she made everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for.

Calling hours will be held at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca, New York, on Saturday, April 11th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m.

Her kindness, devotion, and gentle spirit will be remembered always.
