Lloyd Mead Loop, Jr.

September 11, 1931 — December 5, 2017

Lloyd Mead Loop Jr., 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at Cortland (N.Y.) Park Nursing Home.

Born on Sept. 11, 1931, in Wappingers Falls, he lived in Saugerties for 50 years and retired in 1990 from Saugerties Central Schools, where he was a history and Latin teacher for 32 years.

Loop was a 50-year member of the Saugerties Dutch Reformed Church; served as Saugerties Town Historian; was involved in the restoration of the Saugerties Lighthouse; served as past Commander of American Legion Post 72 in Saugerties; and was inaugural co-president of the Saugerties Retired Teachers Association.

He graduated from Red Hook High School; served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; and held bachelor's and master's degrees from SUNY Albany.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd Mead Loop Sr. and Ruth Loop; and his sister, Shirley Warren.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janet, of Cortland Park Nursing Home; a daughter and son in-law, Kirstin and John Dobbs of Townsville, Queensland, Australia; a son and daughter in-law, Mead and Jill Loop of Ithaca, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, McKenna Loop, Isabelle Loop and Cassandra Loop, all of Ithaca, N.Y.
