Marcia Meigs

January 13, 1938 — March 14, 2015

Marcia Leaman Brown Meigs, died peacefully at home in the company of loving husband, Jonathan; special grandson, Michael; dear friend, David Drake, and beloved dog, Jack on Saturday, March 14, 2015. She was born January 13, 1938 in Santa Barbara, California to Mary Adelaide Tyson Brown and Dr. Clark Edward Brown. She and Jonathan were married September 9, 1960 in Valley Forge, PA. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved sister, Priscilla.

Marcia is survived by Jonathan; sons, Sean and Gabriel; grandson, Michael and other extended family and many friends in Ithaca and Cape Cod, where she summered and loved fishing.

After graduating from Cornell with a BA in pre-med studies, she indulged her lifelong interest in gardening, focusing on plants such as orchids, arisaema, clivia, galanthus, hellebores and hosta, turning the virgin earth of her homestead into a sort of Garden of Eden (with help from son, Sean and many plant enthusiast friends; the deer loved it, too...). Marcia also loved people, taking every opportunity to share stories of family, dogs, fishing, hunting and gardening. She was a staunch contributing member of Ithaca's rock gardening society chapter, a long-time member of St. John's Episcopal Church, and got special pleasure from volunteering at the weekly Immaculate Conception Food Pantry.

A memorial services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, March 2o, 2015 at St. John's Church with a reception to follow. The family would be pleased for donations in Marcia's memory made to the food pantry, St. John's Church, or a charity of the donor's choice. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
