Mary Elizabeth Classen Thompson, beloved daughter of Dick and Jane Classen, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love and support of her family, her most-cherished people.

Born and raised in Ithaca, New York, Mary later moved to Texas with her brother Tom, where she lived in Corpus Christi and the Dallas area from 1977 until 2001. During that time, she earned her degree in Business Management, graduating with highest honors.

After returning to New York in 2001, Mary joined Classen Home Health Associates in Ithaca, where she dedicated the next 17 years to helping build and strengthen the organization. She managed the Human Resources Department, expanded the agency’s NYS training program, authored numerous policies and procedures, and played a vital role in maintaining compliance with NYSDOH regulations.

Mary’s dedication to her work was extraordinary. She approached every responsibility with integrity. Those who worked beside her knew there was simply no one who could outwork Mary. Her commitment and loyalty left a lasting impact on the organization.

While Mary was deeply devoted to her career, her greatest joy was always her family. Mary had a special place in her heart for the younger children in the family, loving them as though they were her own grandchildren. She also enjoyed vintage automobiles in her early years, always liked a good lightning and thunderstorm, and was an avid gardener.

Above all, Mary was happiest at home, tending her perennial garden, cup of coffee in hand, thoroughly enjoying the outdoors. For many years, spending time with her nephew, Weston, was a highlight of her summer. And, in recent years, riding shotgun with her sister, Patty.

Mary’s life was defined by her integrity and work ethic, traits passed down through the family from their father, Dick Classen. Her quiet strength is woven through countless family memories.

Mary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her loving family and friends.

Mary is survived by her loving mother, Jane Classen; her aunt Susie and uncle Jim Barber; her siblings, Patty Classen; Thomas Classen (Cindy); Katherine Exter (Tom); Steve Classen (Marisa); and Elizabeth Ambrose (Djafari). Nieces and nephews, Christy Peter-Karamardian; Michelle Blas (Brandon); Justine Santana; John Santana; Dillon Classen (Megan); Weston Classen (Ashley); Mitchell Classen (Audrey), Miles Classen, Freeman Ambrose and Jane Ambrose. Mary was a loving "Aunt" to the next generation: Wyatt, August, Navy, Mianna, Elijah, Malik, Reina, Adrian, Rhea, Millie, Silas, Isla, Dixon, Rhodes, Tate, Bowen, Alex, and Nicholas.

Well done, good and faithful servant. ”Matthew 25:23
