Mary Jane Francis Parker, age 95, died peacefully on the morning of July 26, 2026, at the Hospicare Residence in Ithaca, New York, where she was lovingly cared for during her final months. 

Born on September 30, 1930, in Albion, New York to Gertrude B. Jablonski Francis and John Gilbert Francis, Sr., Mary Jane lived a long, fruitful, fiercely independent life, and for decades held the cherished honor of being the true matriarch of the family. Mary Jane’s journey was one of quiet resilience and purposeful living, navigating challenges with determination and hope. As the eldest child of four, she took on the role of caregiver at an early age. A 1947 graduate of Albion High School, she was later crowned as the Albion American Legion queen, with her natural beauty and grace no doubt catching the eye of her future husband, Harry. They were married in 1948, and except for a few years in Florida in the 1950s, resided in the Albion area for most of their lives. They were devoted, active members of Barre Center Presbyterian Church and later the Albion First United Methodist Church. Faith, family, and selflessly thinking of others were touchstones of Mary Jane’s life.

A tireless, devoted worker, Mary Jane assisted in the operation of the family farm in Barre, NY before going on to hold a variety of positions in manufacturing and retail services. Her strong work ethic and adaptability were hallmarks of her character. She worked full-time until the age of seventy-nine, when her health precluded any future employment.

Predeceased by her husband Harry T. Parker, her parents, and her younger brothers John G. Francis and Gerald E. Francis, Mary Jane is survived by her son David (Ruth) Parker of Auburn, NY, daughter Deb Parker Traunstein of Ithaca, NY, four beloved grandchildren: Scott (Miranda) Parker of Johnstown, OH, Kim (Roberto) Correa of Centerburg, OH, Chelsea (Joel) Lucas of Charleston, SC, and Noah Traunstein of Ithaca, NY. Her four great-grandchildren, Lillian Correa, Cristian Correa, Thomas Parker, and Parker Lucas, brought a radiant smile to her face that nothing could match. Mary Jane is also survived by her sister Carol Francis Rowcliffe of Batavia, NY, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family has always been her priority, and she will be eternally loved by all. Her legacy will endure in every story told, every value upheld, and every act of kindness extended in her memory.

There will be no calling hours. A family graveside service and interment will be held at Mt. Albion Cemetery on September 4, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Hospicare and Palliative Care Services of Ithaca, 172 East King Rd., Ithaca NY, 14850.
