Michael Stone, longtime resident of Ithaca, passed away March 18, 2015 at his home on Aurora St. Mike was born in Oneonta, NY, to parents, Ruby and William Stone on January 13, 1963. Although not a lot is known about Mike's childhood, we do know that he grew up and developed into a kind, friendly and caring individual. Mike greatly valued being able to do things on his own and was a strong self advocate and fiercely independent in every aspect of his life.
In recent years, Mike had been enjoying his retirement from Challenge Industries and was filling his days with outings with his peers from Unity House and the Tompkins Day Services Program. Mike always enjoyed a cup of coffee (especially a free one!) and his newspapers. Around his house, Mike was rarely seen without his radio in one hand, and his trusty coffee cup in the other. Almost always a smile on his face, and a warm greeting for whomever crossed his path, Mike was truly and individual that was full of life and will be greatly missed.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 24th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. A reception will immediately follow calling hours at Mike's home, 618 N. Aurora St., Ithaca. Family and friends are invited to come and share memories and stories of Mike. Burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery.
