Paul Komino

Paul Kominos passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father and his beloved sister.

Paul leaves behind his daughter, Jaime, and her husband, Alex; his cherished grandchildren, Oscar and Ramona; his son, Alex; his mother, Judith; and his siblings, Jimmy, Peter, and Jeanie. He also leaves behind an extended family of friends, fellow musicians, colleagues, and countless others whose lives were made richer by knowing him. And, of course, he leaves behind his faithful companion, Reggie, the dog who was rarely far from his side.

If Paul’s life could be defined by three great passions, they would be music, food, and the people he loved.

A beloved musician throughout Central New York, Paul was far more than an exceptional guitarist. He was a mentor, collaborator, and friend to musicians of all ages. He was always ready to pick up his guitar, share what he knew, join in a jam, and, most importantly, rock out. Over the years, Paul played with a myriad of bands and musicians throughout the region, forming friendships and musical connections wherever he went. He will be especially remembered for his years performing with Akademy Shred and 12 Ounce Muzzle, along with the many other bands, projects, and impromptu collaborations that were part of a lifetime devoted to music. His influence reached well beyond the stage, and his generosity with his time, talent, and knowledge left a lasting mark on the Central New York music community.

Paul’s creativity extended far beyond music. As an executive chef, he spent many years creating and developing restaurant programs before ultimately finding a home as executive chef for Cornell’s fraternity and sorority community. Food, like music, was something Paul loved to share. Whether he was on stage with a guitar in his hands or in the kitchen preparing a meal, he found joy in creating something others could experience together and in bringing people into the fold.

Above all, Paul valued his family and his friendships. He was loved by many and had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome. He could often be found taking long walks with Reggie along the Cass Park Marina, catching a local concert, sharing a meal, or simply enjoying the company of the people he cared about most.

Paul lived loudly, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of music, mentorship, great food, friendship, and unforgettable memories. His absence will be felt deeply by the many people who loved him, played alongside him, shared a table with him, learned from him, laughed with him, and were fortunate enough to call him a friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 5, 2026, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Ellis Hollow Community Center. This informal gathering is open to all friends and family who would like to celebrate Paul the way he would have wanted: through music, food, storytelling, and togetherness.

Guests are encouraged to bring a musical instrument, be prepared to make some noise, and come ready to share their memories of a man who would have wanted nothing less.
