Obituary

Philip LeRoy Goss, 75, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 6, 1951, in Elmira, New York, he was the son of Helen McCormick and Robert A. Goss.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Army he returned from the Vietnam War and married his teenage sweetheart, Loretta. From there they moved to Fort Riley Kansas where Phil completed his Military Service. Together, they returned to Ithaca and shared 55 beautiful years of marriage and built a life centered on family.

Phil was a man who led by example, dedicating more than 40 years to the turbine vane and blade industry. His hard work and expertise were evident as he rose through the ranks to serve as a Master Machinist, Chief Mechanical Foreman, and Turbine Specialist. Truly a man of many talents, there was very little Phil couldn't build, fix, or create. He poured his creativity and patience into his favorite hobbies, including woodworking and classic car and truck restoration. A lover of great music, Phil has left a beautiful soundtrack of memories in our hearts.

He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta; his daughters, Susan (Marc) DeRoller and Jennifer (Brad) Jump; and his beloved grandchildren, Emma and Ella DeRoller, and Giovanna and Dominic Jump. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne (Peggy) Goss and Peter Goss; his sister, Donna (Kevin) Larivee; sister-in-law, Lucy (Rich) Hinell; brother-in-law, Michael (Tamara) Flacco; his niece, Lisa (Brandon) Kern; nephews, Robert Goss, Ryan Goss, Derik (Nikki) Diaz, Ethan Wingenbach and Alexander Flacco; many cousins; as well as a tight-knit circle of friends including Judy Newhart and Sue Harrison, affectionately referred to as his sister wives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mark Goss, and his close friends Peter Morgan, Don Henry, and Terry Henry.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Bangs Funeral Home on Thursday, May 28th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 29th, at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 113 North Geneva St, Ithaca, NY. Phil will be laid to rest with military honors at Calvary Cemetery.
