Long Island

Phyllis Jane Trigg (Née Orlins), a retired registered dietician and lifelong Long Island, NY resident, passed away on June 30, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Lymphoma.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Wayne and children Daniel and Jo; grandchildren Micah Meckler and Sammy Trigg; daughters-in-law Sarah Meckler and Kristin Sharp, and brother, Stephen Orlins. Many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews survive her. She is predeceased by her parents, Martin and Marie Orlins and brother, David Orlins.

Phyllis was born on October 6th, 1953 in Roslyn Heights, NY. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in French in 1975 and New York University with a master’s degree in nutrition in 1978. Deeply committed to social justice, Phyllis’ career choices reflected her values. Her workplaces and positions included: Cavalry Hospital serving the terminally ill, Queens Centers for Progress working with adults with developmental disabilities, and at the County Child Care Council of Nassau, implementing healthy eating curriculum in early childhood centers.

Set up by a mutual family friend, on June 3rd, 1979, she married Wayne, and they remained married for 46 years. On December 1, 1982, she gave birth to Daniel, and on June 26, 1986, she gave birth to Jo. Her two children were the great joys of her life.

One word can describe Phyllis: family. She loved family getting together and was the main organizer for all family holidays. The family is grateful that just 1 year prior, they had a 36 person Orlins family reunion in Ohio. “Life is about relationships,” is something she’d often say. A registered dietician, she enjoyed exercising and leading a healthy lifestyle. Her interests included cooking, sports (especially watching the Mets and NY football teams), politics, gardening, French culture, traveling, hiking, biking, and cooking.

Traits to describe Phyllis include generous, warm, loving, modest, talkative, and a great friend. She boasted an extensive branch of friends who she remained close to for the duration of her life: Shade Tree Lane, Wheatley, Camp Truda, NYU, Wash. U., North Shore Nursery School, Temple Judea, Manhasset. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will be a blessing.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9th at the Garden City Hotel from noon to 3 pm. Shiva will take place at Wayne’s home on Thursday, July 10th and Friday, July 11th from 2 pm to 8 pm.
