Roger A. Schappi, 85, of Ithaca, NY, passed away January 22, 2019, at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born in Ithaca, son of the late John and Jean Schappi. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Gail Schappi.
Roger served in the military prior to joining NCR where he worked for over 35 years. It was there that he met many of his closest friends who he enjoyed spending time with both on the golf course and on the bowling lanes. He had a particular fondness for sports and thoroughly enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events. He was a member of Elks Lodge #636.
A loving and devoted father and grandfather, Roger is survived by his sons and daughter in laws, Daniel and Suzanne Schappi of Trumansburg, NY, and Jeffrey and Tammy Schappi of Annandale, VA, and his grandchildren Jamie, Ashley, Matthew, Christopher, John, and Andrew.
Friends may call Sunday, January 27, 2019, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM at Bangs Funeral Home. Elks Lodge #636 will hold a private service for family at 11:30 A.M. prior to calling hours. Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Spring at Calvary Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life for family and friends to share their memories; date to be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s memory may be made to the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, 612 W. State Street, Ithaca, NY 14850. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
