Rolland "Rolly," Manley, a dedicated public servant and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, in Endicott, NY. Born on February 25, 1945, in Ithaca, NY, Rolland lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and devotion to the people and activities he loved.
Rolly's distinguished career spanned two decades with the sheriff’s department, where he began as a road patrol officer and rose through the ranks to retire in December of 1993 as chief criminal investigator. Throughout his tenure, he was known not only for his professional competence but also for his deep compassion for people, qualities that made him exceptional in his role. His proudest achievements were marked by his commitment to justice combined with genuine care for the community he served.
Outside of his career, Rolly enjoyed a rich and full life filled with hobbies and pastimes that brought him great joy and allowed him to create lasting memories with his loved ones. He was an avid bowler and found immense pleasure in spending many days boating on Cayuga Lake aboard his beloved boat, “The Good Times.” His happiest moments on the water were shared with his wife Bea, their daughters Tammy and Pam, and friends, often delighting in the playful fun of throwing the girls and their friends off the tubes.
Rolly had a profound appreciation for nature and the outdoors. He cherished camping at Spruce Row in Trumansburg, where he could unwind and find peace in the natural surroundings. Gardening was another of his passions—he tended to his lawn and his vegetable and fruit garden with great pride, meticulously caring for his plants. Roses were a special love; Rolly built an impressive trellis to support their climb, a testament to his dedication and eye for beauty.
His enjoyment of golf was full of contrasts, embodying both a love of the game and the camaraderie it fostered, as well as a humorous frustration with his own performance. Creativity also found its place in his life through woodworking and painting, producing numerous handcrafted items that were given as treasured gifts to those dear to him.
Rolly’s life was rich with experiences and relationships that reflected his generous spirit and zest for life. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Audrey Manley, and his siblings, Kathleen Agard, Charles Manley, Bruce Manley, and Russ Manley. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Beatrice Manley, and his daughters, Tammy Lopez (Rick), Pam Lattin (Rob). Along with his grandchildren, Nikolas Lopez (Abbey), Lacey Lattin (Mohammad), Zachary Lattin (Abby), his brother Larry Manley and an expected great-grandson in July. Together, they shared in the many adventures and simple pleasures that Rolly embraced so wholeheartedly.
His passing leaves a profound sense of loss but also a deep appreciation for a man who truly lived life to its fullest and touched the lives of those around him with kindness and dedication. Rolland "Rolly," Manley will be remembered with respect and affection by all who knew him.
