Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Rosa Lydia Maldonado announces her passing on October 27, 2026, after a brief illness.

Rosa will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Carlos Maldonado, as well as her three children, Dr. Maria Soto-Greene (Dr. Bruce Greene), Daisy Manjarrés (Armando Manjarrés), and Ricky Maldonado (Raquel Maldonado), her grandchildren, including Adam, Danielle, Bruce, Armando, Raphael, Monica, Alexander, Luis, Gian Carlos, and Angelina, and great-grandchildren, including Jaiden and Marcelo.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her son, Louis, and her granddaughter, Tania.

Rosa was a daughter of Epifanio Rivera and María Luisa Graña. Her siblings included Rate, Ismael, Guelo, Edisón, and José. She was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. She emigrated to New York City as a child with her mother and siblings, and later settled in Hoboken, New Jersey. Later in life, she lived in Passaic, New Jersey, Ponce, Puerto Rico, and Ithaca, New York.

Rosa was a woman of love, kindness, and perseverance. As a young woman, she worked for many years as a seamstress to support her family. She devoted her later years to caring for her many grandchildren. She was a woman of deep faith, and prayed for her loved ones unceasingly. She was always there to lend an ear or give a hug to her grandchildren, whom she often affectionately referred to as her own children as well.

Rosa loved attending Mass, listening to music, taking photos of people and places, caring for children and family, taking care of pets, such as her beloved dog, Lobo, and cheering for the New York Yankees.

A funeral service in memory of Rosa will be held at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W Green St, Ithaca, NY, on Friday, October 30, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at a later date in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
