Stephen Douglas Fain, 79, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Fain, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Doug was born on September 1, 1946, in Syracuse, New York, to Coy and Virginia (Ludwikowski) Fain. He graduated from Liverpool High School in 1964 and later worked at the Carrier plant.

Doug and Patricia began their life together in Liverpool before moving to Ithaca in 1979, where they raised their family. He worked for Therm Incorporated for 38 years before retiring in 2018. While working full-time, he achieved a lifelong goal by earning a degree from Tompkins Cortland Community College in 1999.

Doug enjoyed reading, fishing at Panther Lake, trivia, watching Jeopardy, Sudoku puzzles, and cheering on Syracuse athletics, the Buffalo Bills, and the New York Yankees.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Fain; his daughter, Melissa (Jason) Brayman; his granddaughter, Katelyn Brayman; his brother, Mark (Sue) Fain; sister-in-law Joanne and (Gerald) Zipper.

He was predeceased by his parents, Coy and Virginia Fain; his brother, Robert Fain; and his sister, Paula Courson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at 10:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ithaca, New York. 149 Honness Lane, Ithaca, New York. Services will be at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Kings Cemetery on South Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospicare & Palliative Care Services of Tompkins County.

Doug will be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, his faith, and the many lives he touched.
