Beacon, NY. Suzanne Hecht, 86, formerly of Ithaca, NY, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Teacher of French language and piano performance, devoted volunteer for many charitable organizations, homemaker, loving wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. Following her husband Jaime Hecht (died 2006) through many job relocations, Suzanne ran the household, raised their three children, cared for her in-laws in their frail years, and helped Jaime and the children shine. She gave Jaime the peace of mind to focus on his attorney positions (in labor relations and as a corporate officer). Always the teacher, Suzanne (along with Jaime) helped new immigrants from the former Soviet Union to learn English, to drive, use U.S. currency and shop for groceries. Suzanne also learned Braille, using a donated Brailler to adapt printed books for use by the blind and visually impaired. Active and a leader at Temple Beth El (Ithaca, NY), its Sisterhood and Hadassah. Survived by daughter Rachel Hecht (Fred) McConkey of Cumbria, England, sons Joseph (Nanette) of Cleveland, OH, and David (Susan) of Poughkeepsie, NY, seven grandchildren, cousins Maurice Cling and Linda Archer, sister-in-law Rose Leiman Goldemberg. In addition to Jaime, she was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Lisette Goldemberg, and her brother, Robert L. Goldemberg. Funeral services will be held 11am Monday, April 27, 2015 at Temple Beth-El with Rabbi Scott Glass presiding. Interment following at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Temple Beth-El (Ithaca).
