Ithaca

Thomas James “Jimmy” Amici, age 77 of Ithaca, NY passed away Thursday, November 27th at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. He was born February 12th, 1948, in Ithaca, NY to the late Thomas and Viola Amici.

Jimmy graduated from Ithaca High School in 1966. Upon graduation he worked at Kohlers Machine Shop as a machinist and had various jobs in construction and property management, eventually becoming co-owner of Mazza and Amici LLC, where he rented and maintained 19 different properties in the area for over 39 years.

Though he was a hard worker, he would always drop what he was doing for his family and friends. He would never sit still, working for his business or at his house on whatever jobs he could. He was a jack of all trades. Plumbing, heating, electrical, and construction. He and his wife enjoyed crafting together in their spare time.

He had a love for his classic cars and his vast beer tap collection. He was a proud Corvette owner. His favorite car was his Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 , which, aside from the color, was the same as the one he had back in High School. One of his most memorable moments in that car was with his wife, Joyce, when she flicked her cigarette into the ash tray, where he stored fireworks. As he was driving down the road, they all went off.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Viola Amici; son, Jeffrey Amici; and granddaughter, Julia VanDeMark.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Amici of 56 years; son, Toby Amici; daughters, Heather Amici-VanDeMark and her husband, John VanDeMark, Alexandria Amici, and Tessa Amici; grandchildren, Ryan VanDeMark and Draven Amici; brother, Edward Amici; and he leaves behind many more family members and friends.

The Amici family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses, especially at Cayuga Hematology Oncology Associates of Ithaca, that gave Jimmy the kind and gentle care he needed to spend more time with his friends and family.

On Saturday, December 6th, 2025, a 10am funeral will be held at Bangs Funeral Home. Immediately following there will be a burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Newfield, NY.
