Warren H. Sturtevant

December 21, 1929 — January 31, 2019

Ithaca - Warren H. Sturtevant, 90, of Ithaca, NY and Port Charlotte, FL, passed away at his home in NY. He was born in Elyria, OH on Dec 31, 1928. He came to Ithaca in 1972 and has wintered in his home in Florida since 2000. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy and a daughter, Deborah Craig, her husband, Roger, and her 2 daughters, 1 son, and 5 grandchildren, his son, James, of Horseheads, NY and his 2 sons and 1 daughter. He has a granddaughter in Buffalo, NY, who was a daughter of his deceased son, Jon. He also had a daughter deceased at 9 years. He had 2 stepsons, Frank and David Petrulis of Ithaca,

NY. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a Radio Operator Mechanic on B-29s in the Strategic Air Command in various parts of the world. After his discharge, he and his first wife, Norma, returned to Ohio and served his apprenticeship as a First Class Machinist. He then took a job as a Process Engineer at Lorain Cranes and left 18 years later as a Master Mechanic. He spent the next 2 years with Marion Power Shovel and the next 3 years at Valeron Corp. He was sent to Italy to manage with 9 Manufacturing Programmers to program large machines used to make large ship engines. Upon his return he initiated a new division in Adaptive Control. He was offered an opportunity to join Borg Warner Automotive in Ithaca as General Superintendent in 1972. He supervised many expansions, including directing the beginning of a joint venture in Italy. He retired in 1991 as Senior Staff Engineer. He was active for many years in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Junior

Chamber of Commerce, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and was an advisor for the Lorain County Community College in Ohio. He married his wife, Dorothy Hull, in 1981 and they have enjoyed their life together. He enjoyed building things and was always busy with friends. They built a cottage on the east side of Cayuga Lake called Dot's Landing and a summer place on the west side of Cayuga Lake called Sturte Cove. This was developed on land inherited by his wife from her father, Adelbert Hull. His friends, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren enjoyed this cottage for many years. He also was always building or growing flowers both on Hector St and at Port Charlotte, FL.

Private family services at Bangs Funeral. Celebration of Life will be Wed, 2pm, at the Royal Court Restaurant. In lieu of flowers, charity SPCA or charity of choice
