Chris A. Smith

Chris A. Smith 84 of Lansing resident of over 50 years passed September 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  

Chris was born in Augusta, Kansas where he was raised. Chris attended the University of Kansas where he received his degree and MBA as a Civil Engineer. While at the University of Kansas, Chris became a proud member of the ATO Fraternity. Chris also honorably served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. After serving, he married his loving wife, Sonia Smith, in 1963 and remained married until her passing in 2020. 

Chris and Sonia moved to Lansing in 1970 where Chris worked as a Senior Vice President for Borg Warner and Emerson Electric in Ithaca.  They raised their five children, Richard Smith, Jennifer (Smith) Baker, Danielle Smith, Jaclyn Smith and Chris Smith.  Chris was an active member of the Lansing community, a staunch supporter of Lansing Athletics as well as an avid dog lover.  

Chris was a loving husband, kind and generous father who loved to laugh and will be dearly missed by those who loved him. 

The family would like to thank the kind services of Hospice, his private nurse Tori Hatfield and the entire at Bridges Cornell Assisted Living Community that provided outstanding care in the later part of his life. 

Family will receive friends and relatives at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green Street, Ithaca New York on Sunday, September 4, 2022 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm followed by a memorial service from 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery Annex, Ridge Road, Lansing, NY.
