On May 31, Chung Liang Tang passed away at the age of 88, with his wife Louise at his side.
Chung was the Spencer T. Olin Professor of Engineering at Cornell University. He joined the electrical engineering faculty in 1964 and became a professor emeritus in 2008. He was a member of numerous distinguished scientific academies, institutes, and societies, including the National Academy of Engineering and the Academia Sinica of the Republic of China.
Before joining the Cornell faculty, Chung earned his B.S. from the University of Washington, M.S. from California Institute of Technology, and Ph.D. from Harvard University; he engaged in post-doctoral studies at the Technical University in Aachen, Germany; and he was a principal research scientist at the Raytheon Research Division.
Chung’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family, whom he showered with love and wisdom. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Louise; his three children, Elizabeth (Dave), Gregory (Tammy), and Julia (Mark); eleven grandchildren, Andrew, Kyle (Jason), Julianna, Cynthia, Gregory, Emily (Trent), Katherine (Zachary), Brian, Lauren, Natalie (Sam), and Kevin; and three great-grandchildren, Aria, Theodore, and Chloe.
The family will hold a private ceremony to celebrate Chung’s life.
