David George Obituary

David Hugh George, 51 was born in Syracuse, NY on March 3, 1972. He died on March 28, 2023. He was the son of Carol and the late William George. He is survived  by his mother, Carol VanRiper George; stepfather, Alvin Poppen; his sister, Rosalind George; his brother, William George; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his father, William, he was predeceased by his sister, Glynis. He was a gentle giant, a dear soul, and will be greatly missed by many.

David and his family were first associated with St. James Church in Skaneateles when they were summer residents of Carpenter’s Point. He loved the lake, boating, and Charley, the family Yorkshire terrier, who loved him back in equal measure.  David loved his family at St. James, where he was a member of the choir.

David had an associate’s degree in human services from Onondaga Community College, and a bachelor’s degree in the same field from Empire State College. He was enrolled in the MSW program at Utica University and was anticipating an exciting and rewarding career in social work. David could empathize with the needs of the marginalized, and his care and love for those who might need a hand up was always there. Dear David will be missed.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at St. James Church in Skaneateles. Burial in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 96 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, NY 13152.
