Don Merilahti, 83, a veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully January 13, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on Feb. 7, 1938, Don was the son of the late Oliver and Jean (Petrillo) Merilahti; and was predeceased by step-daughter, Debbie.
Survived by his sons Brian, Jeff and Christopher; Grandsons Corey and Jesse, and his companion of over 20 years, Renee' Lovett.
Don's experiences as a Paratrooper on foreign land in the military played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Army had taught him the value of discipline and hard work. Upon his honorable discharge, Don was a successful self employed master craftsman in construction for over 50 years. His outstanding work ethic was a source of accomplishment as well as an inspiration to many.
He will be remembered by most for his sense of humor and wit, as well as the imagery he used when sharing a good story or adventure of days past. Don will be dearly missed by his community, friends and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
