Donald G. Waddell

Donald G. Waddell passed away in Ithaca, New York on March 28, 2023, at the age of 65 after a long battle with liver cancer. Donald was born and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was the youngest of two children of Richard Waddell and Gale Waddell. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan Stratton-Waddell, his daughter Kendra, and son Gareth, and two grandchildren.

Donald earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business and Public Administration respectively at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He was quietly proud of his work as an analyst on the Legislative Finance Committee in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He and his wife Susan and their children moved to Ithaca in 2001.

In Ithaca, he enjoyed participating in community activities through serving on the boards of several organizations including the Ithaca School District’s Audit Committee, Care Compass Network, Finance Committee, Ithaca Babe Ruth League, VP of League and Board Member, Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance, Board Member, and Cal Ripken League.

His personal interest in sports included playing golf regularly with his team, coaching little league teams, and following his favorite professional baseball team, the Baltimore Oriels. 

He will be missed by many.  Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green Street, Ithaca, NY.  A memorial service will follow at 4:30 pm at the funeral home.
