Gene VanZile

Gene VanZile of Newfield, NY passed away Sunday 28 August 2022. Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra. He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey, and his grandsons, Aidan and Chandler VanZile.

After graduating from Newfield High School, Gene devoted himself to his country and enlisted in the Army. Gene was stationed in West Germany as a tank mechanic and tank commander. Upon an Honorable Discharge, Gene returned home and became an employee of the Finger Lakes Park Region.

At the Finger Lakes Park Region, Gene became the Heavy Equipment Operator and Supervisor. Gene and his team were responsible for the majority of the beauty at the Finger Lakes Park Region. Building and maintaining the majestic parks such as Buttermilk, Robert Treman, Stoney Brook, Fair Haven Beach, Taughannock Falls and constructing Allan H. Treman Marina and the list goes on. Gene worked 42 years keeping the Finger Lakes Parks beautiful before retiring.

After retiring, Gene became an avid gardener, producing a beautiful and bountiful garden each year. His vegetables were always free to those that needed them and could use them.

Gene always had an enormous heart for his family and friends. He was always helping those that needed help. Gene lived a wonderful life, full of fun, family, joy, love and compassion. Friends were always welcome to tell stories, ask for advice or just to say Hi. Gene’s door was always open.

Gene loved life, his family and will be deeply and truly missed.
