Joseph Anthony Fabi

Joseph Anthony Fabi passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Cayuga Medical Center following a period of declining health due to vascular dementia.

Joe was born October 31, 1934 in Delia, Sicily. He came to this country through Ellis Island when he was about nine years old.  He was very proud of his heritage. In later years he became an advocate for other Sicilian through lawyer, John Lopinto, who desired citizenship.

He is survived by his best friend and partner of 43 years, Cheryl Beach.  Joe was “step dad” to her youngest daughter, Jami Marie Beach and a “step grandparent” to Brittany Beach, Brianna Carthen and Jazzlyn Curry.  He is also survived by his brother, Louis (Carolyn) Fabi and their children, Michelle Green and her husband Steve, Maureen (Mimi) and Anthony Fabi and a niece, Nichole Fabi.  He is predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe di Luigi and Maria (Genova) Fabi, his brother Richard Fabi and a baby brother, Luigi Fabi.

He received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1956 where he was stationed in German and spent time in Spain.  Joe worked for the Internal Revenue Service for many years then he transferred over to working for the United States Defense Department.

He loved spending the winters in Florida and the month of May in Aruba. He will not only be missed by his hometown family but by his “Florida Family” and his “Aruba Family”. Joe was loved by everyone who met him.  He was very much a devoted family man and was very loved.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green Street, Ithaca, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church, 309 Siena Drive, Ithaca, NY with a burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
