Sophie Caliel

Sophie Caliel, 98, of Lansing, NY, died peacefully at Cayuga Medical Center on Friday April 8, 2022, with her niece Lori by her side. Born in Myers, NY on October 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Frieda Solomon Caliel. She graduated from Lansing High School and was a longtime employee of the Ithaca Gun Company. Sophie is survived by her loving niece and caregiver Lori Mike, loving nieces, Cathy Bennett, Collette Hayes, Julie Boney, and Julie Boles, and loving nephews Marion George, Jack Mike, Michael Caliel, Scott Caliel, and Mark Caliel. Sophie is also survived by sisters-in-law Marlene Caliel, Linda Caliel and Maryann Caliel. In addition to her parents, Sophie was predeceased by her sisters, Mary George, Nancy MacDougal, Julia Mike, and Catherine Mike; and her brothers, Abraham (Cal) Caliel, Robert Caliel and Fred Caliel.
The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of 4 north at Cayuga Medical Center, Dr. Naila Mirza, Medical Director of Palliative Medicine, Madeline Gallagher, PA, Kevin Jones, PA, Nick Smith,PA, and Chaplain Tim Dean.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lansing, NY., Thursday, April 14, 2022 at
11:00 am, with Fr. Matthew Binkewicz officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Church, 30 Myers Heights, Lansing, NY 14882.
