Timothy Walsh Obituary

Timothy John Walsh, age 65, of Mecklenburg, New York, passed away unexpectedly at his home of natural causes. Tim was born in Penn Yan, New York, October 6, 1956. Tim is survived by his siblings, Kathryn A. Kenyon, William L. Walsh (Debbie), Mary A. Ciaschi (Joe), Joseph R. Walsh (Carol) and James P. Walsh (Amy), several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Tom & Irene Walsh, Tim was predeceased by his brother Thomas M. Walsh and his Brother-in-Law, Roger Kenyon.

Tim had a special affinity for all his nieces and nephews: Tim and Pete Kenyon; Jonathan & Joel Walsh and Shannon James; Joe [Shug] Ciaschi and Katie Louer; Ben, Sam, and CJ Walsh; and Chris and Julia Walsh. He followed all their life endeavors, particularly their sports activities, with great interest and pride.

Tim especially loved sports and was a stalwart athlete himself achieving great success in high school wrestling and baseball at Trumansburg High School. He graduated with the very athletic class of 1975.  In wrestling he was part of the mighty 1975 team, IAC runners-up and Class B 3rd place finishers.  At dual meets, he launched the infamous “murderous row”: Tim Walsh-155, Al Foote-167, Kipper Ness-177, George Van Valen-215.  In baseball, he excelled at center field and at bat for the powerhouse teams of 1974 (IAC Champions) and 1975 (22-2, IAC runners-up). An Ithaca Journal sportswriter quipped before the ‘75 title game: “At the bat, it’s been a complete team effort for the Blue Raiders. Some of the standouts have been Jay Russell and Timmy Walsh but there have been many others.”  Meck-len…BURG!

Recreationally, Tim enjoyed brother Bill’s famous ping pong tournaments and the annual captain & crew family golf outing. His backhand table tennis smash was unstoppable and last summer he had the best golf outing of his golfing “career.” He was a lifelong NY Giants fan.

For the last ten years of Tim’s extensive driving career, he drove school bus for the Ithaca City School District. He drove the Caroline route, route 40 and he loved to drive the sports teams to their sporting events. We are sure the school kids will miss their steady and faithful bus driver.

Most importantly Tim was a kindhearted, somewhat shy, intelligent, and caring individual. He was Catholic, baptized at St. Michael’s in Penn Yan and confirmed at St. James Church in Trumansburg.
