David Abdulky Obituary

David Mansour Abdulky was born in Damascus, Syria, June 6, 1942 to Mansour Abdulky and Marie Miro Abdulky. Multi-talented, he enjoyed a career in the import/export business as well as working in the film industry as a professional dancer, actor, and director. David immigrated to the United States in 1966 where he became a jack of all trades in his pursuit of the American dream. He always gravitated towards jobs where he could enjoy communicating and socializing with people. He spent his first years in the US in textiles, insurance sales, and even as a professional cosmetologist.  After working in several industries, David settled into the jewelry business in 1981, with Mansour Jewelers. He quickly and easily achieved great success as a retail jeweler with a wonderful reputation for honesty, integrity, and knowledge.

David was a pillar in his community in Ithaca, where he raised and nurtured his family and cultivated a great many friends. David possessed the wonderful ability to make everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. A generous man, he was always known for giving to others, even in the beginning of his career, when he had little of his own to give. Of David's business acumen, one customer once said "Even if you walked into Mansour Jewelers to spend just $70, he treated you as if you had just spent $7,000."

David's ready, contagious smile was not limited to his customers. He valued family above all else, and his home was always filled with the voices and laughter of his immediate and extended family. As with all others, David made each member of his family feel cherished and welcome, and his home was a comforting haven of happiness.

A kind-hearted and selfless man, David was beloved by his family and friends, and his loss will be felt by many. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie, father, Mansour, and step-mother, Helene Karkour. David is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Laila Zarif Abdulky, his children, Suléma, David, Elaine, and Michael (who will be carrying on the legacy of Mansour Jewelers), his brothers, George Abdulky and Fareed Abdulky, his sister, Fareeda Abdulky, their spouses, Amal Miro Abdulky, Lamia Zarif Abdulky, his mother-in-law, Linda Karkour, his nieces and nephews, Mary Abdulky, Enaam Abdulky, Elias Abdulky, Eiad Abdulky, Christine Abdulky-Farrell, Mansour Abdulky, Carla Abdulky-Schreiner, Nagham Abduky, Obaida Abdulky, Nabgh Abdulky, and Ammar Abdulky, and Linda Alzarif, his grandchildren, Marena Bracaloni, Sierra Bracaloni, Dano Bracaloni, and Cal Abdulky, and his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Hassan Alzarif and Marwan Alzarif, Lina Alzarif.
